1. Overview

Herbert & Phyllis (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates herbertandphyllis.com and is the data controller for the information described below. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

Herbert & Phyllis is an online kosher food gift shop. We sell dried fruit, nut and chocolate gifts, and trees planted in Israel, and we collect only the minimum information needed to take an order and deliver it. We also provide a free, optional shiva-coordination page to families who ask for one; that tool is described separately below and is not part of shopping.

2. Information We Collect

When you order a gift

• Your name and email address, so we can send the order confirmation and tracking
• The recipient’s name and delivery address, so the gift can be delivered
• Any gift message you write, which we print on a card and include with the order
• For a tree in Israel: the honoree’s name and your dedication, which appear on the certificate
• Billing information, processed securely by Stripe — we never see or store your card number
• Contact form submissions (name, email, and message)

If you request a free shiva-coordination page

This is an optional courtesy tool, separate from shopping. It is only used if a family asks us for one.

• The name of the person who has died, and the shiva details the family chooses to publish
• Names and email addresses of people who sign up for Mishnayos or meal coordination
• Condolence messages submitted to that page

Information collected automatically

• Basic server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and performance monitoring
• Google Ads conversion tracking, which tells us that an advertisement led to an order. It sets Google cookies in your browser and shares the fact and value of a completed order with Google. It does not receive your name, address, or gift message.
• We do not sell or rent your data to any third party

3. How We Use Your Information

• To process and deliver your gift order, and to email you the confirmation, tracking and delivery date
• To produce and send the dedication certificate for a tree planted in Israel
• To respond to contact form inquiries and customer service requests
• To ask you once, well after delivery, whether you would leave a review
• To improve the site and fix bugs
• If a family requested a free shiva-coordination page: to display that page and send the sign-up and reminder emails they asked for

We measure our advertising: Google Ads conversion tracking tells us when an advertisement led to an order, so we know which ones are worth running. That shares the fact and value of a completed order with Google, and no more — not your name, the recipient’s details, or anything you wrote in a gift message. We do not sell or rent your data to any third party.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (PostgreSQL), hosted on infrastructure compliant with industry-standard security practices. Emails are sent via Resend. Payments are processed by Stripe.

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Shiva Pages and Public Information

Shiva pages created on Herbert & Phyllis are accessible to anyone with the link. The name of the deceased, shiva dates, location, visiting hours, and condolence messages are visible to all visitors of the page. Please be mindful of the information you include when creating a page.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies required for the site to function, such as your cart contents. We also run Google Ads conversion tracking, which sets Google advertising cookies so an order can be attributed to the advertisement that led to it. You can block these in your browser settings, or opt out of personalised Google advertising at adssettings.google.com — the site works normally either way.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Request access to the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your data
• Opt out of non-essential emails at any time using the unsubscribe link

8. Children's Privacy

Herbert & Phyllis is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
